About Consendsys

A better way to rank anything

Most ranking systems are noisy. Sometimes people use a 1-10 scale. Sometimes they use 5 stars. In both systems, votes often cluster around a few familiar numbers, and scores below 7 can feel much worse than they should.

Consendsys takes a different approach: pairwise comparisons. Instead of assigning a number, each voter picks one of two items at a time. That simple choice is easier to make, more consistent, and more engaging.

After fewer votes than most people expect, the system can produce a strong overall ranking. When voters have real knowledge of the topic, accuracy improves quickly.

This method is topic-agnostic. You can rank films, products, books, restaurants, workouts, ideas, routes, or anything else people care about.

How it works

  1. Create a list of items people can compare.
  2. Show voters one pair at a time and ask which ranks higher.
  3. Aggregate those choices into a full list ranking.

How rankings are made

You can vote on every possible pair, but the app usually surfaces items that are close in score so each choice adds more value. Rankings then update with an ELO-style method: if a lower-ranked item beats a higher-ranked one, it gains more score than it would by beating an item near its own level.
